We are proud to say that Angelcam works with almost any IP camera, DVR, NVR, or other device that supports h.264 video encoding and RTSP streaming protocol, which is almost all devices currently available on the market.

Even though h.264 and RTSP are the industry standards and the recommended connection method for Angelcam, we currently also support MJPEG camera connection as well.

This means that Angelcam offers an edge over our competition by not simply sticking to specific brands or models. Rather, by offering connectivity for nearly all modern cameras and video recording equipment.

Connecting your security device to Angelcam

The Angelcam platform offers two methods of connecting an IP camera to your account.

Standard compatibility simply means that the camera is able to be connected to our service but will require further steps in order to do so. Standard devices will require the installer to connect using port forwarding or to use a secondary connection device, such as our Angelbox. For the complete list of compatible camera brands, please check this article.

Port forwarding allows for DIY connectivity but requires networking knowledge and the ability to self-manage your network. This method should only be considered by those who can access their internet router and have the ability & willingness to open up their network to allow for communication from their camera(s) to Angelcam.

  • Angelbox offers a quick connection solution for cameras that are compatible with Angelcam but for users that do not have the ability to manage their network. The Angelbox is a small device that connects to your network router and automatically scans & connects compatible cameras to Angelcam using an encrypted VPN-like connection. Each Angelbox can typically support up to 15-20 cameras each and can be purchased on here.

A compatible device must be RTSP stream capable using h.264 encoding or HTTP stream capable using MJPEG encoding. Such specification is typically noted on the cameras technical information portion of either the included documentation or on the website from which the camera is advertised.

Angelcam-Ready devices are those have our Angelcam Connector firmware already installed OR are able to be flashed (installed) with our Connector firmware.

Angelcam-Ready simplifies the installation process by negating the need to have a static IP, use DDNS or open ports on your network. The firmware simply forwards the camera stream using a VPN-like connection. Along with ease of installation, the Angelcam-Ready firmware also creates a secure, encrypted, method of connection to ensure your camera stream remains safe from malicious hacks or unauthorized viewing.

For a list of compatible cameras, which our Angelcam-Ready firmware can be installed on, please check out the complete list HERE.
