What Is Gateway Mode in AngelCamera 2?

AngelCamera 2 includes Gateway Mode, allowing it to function both as a camera and a connector—just like AngelBox—supporting up to 10 IP cameras or 20 Mbps of total bandwidth on the same local network.

Installation Experience

When installing AngelCamera 2, you’ll see a pop-up window prompting you to enable or disable Gateway Mode.

This gives you full control:

  • Enable Gateway Mode if you want AngelCamera 2 to act as a connector for other cameras.

  • Disable Gateway Mode if you only want to use it as a standalone camera.

The pop-up clearly explains that Gateway Mode is optional and may affect performance depending on your local network and internet speed. If you experience degraded performance, Angelcam recommends:

  • Reducing total bandwidth usage.

  • Distributing load across multiple AngelCameras or AngelBoxes.

  • Lowering bitrate on connected cameras.

🔐 Why Use Gateway Mode?

Using Gateway Mode eliminates the need for a separate AngelBox, saving cost and simplifying setup. It’s ideal for:

  • Homes or small businesses with multiple IP cameras.

  • Users who want a streamlined, all-in-one solution.

  • Locations without public IP addresses or dynamic IP issues.

AngelBox remains a great option for larger installations or where a dedicated gateway is preferred.
