How to turn camera sound on or off

Turn a camera's audio on or off, and control sound in broadcasting and embedded streams.

Written by Pavel Kuba

Angelcam handles camera sound in two places: the camera's own audio setting, which applies everywhere, and the player used for broadcasting, where viewers choose whether to listen.

Turn sound on or off for a camera

This setting decides whether Angelcam processes the camera's audio at all.

  1. Click Locations at the top, select your location and open the Cameras tab.

  2. Click the camera you want to change.

  3. In the left menu, click Settings and scroll down to Audio stream.

  4. Turn the switch Off or On.

  5. Click Save settings.

⚠️ When Audio stream is off, Angelcam doesn't process the camera's sound at all. There's no sound in live view, in recordings or in broadcasting.

💡 To hear sound when Audio stream is on, the camera itself must send audio in a supported format (G.711 or AAC). See What's the best setup for recording and broadcasting audio?

Sound in broadcasting and embedded streams

When you broadcast a camera or embed its stream on your website, the player starts muted. Viewers can turn the sound on with the speaker icon in the bottom-left corner of the player. If you use the HTML embed code and want the player to start with sound, add &mute=0 to the iframe address. Some browsers may still start the video muted.

Viewers can only hear sound if Audio stream is on in the camera's settings. If you don't want anyone to hear your camera, turn Audio stream off as described above.

For more about embedding a stream, see Working with Broadcasting Embed codes.
